Julian Nagelsmann's resignation as head coach of the German national team will incur significant costs for the German Football Association (DFB), according to Sky Germany.
Reports indicate that the severance package for the former national team coach and his assistants, Benjamin Hübner and Benjamin Glück, totals 6.6 million euros. Nagelsmann was earning approximately 7 million euros annually and had a contract until 2028. However, following negotiations, he ultimately decided to step down after the disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign.
While the search for a successor is underway, Jürgen Klopp is considered the preferred candidate, with the DFB itself confirming ongoing discussions. According to Sky Sport, a swift agreement between the German Football Association and the former Liverpool manager seems unlikely, but a deal is anticipated within the next few weeks.
Klopp's current association with Red Bull is seen as a potential hurdle. However, any potential compensation claim from the conglomerate is not viewed as a serious obstacle or a deal-breaker. On the contrary, there is confidence that if a principal agreement is reached with Klopp, solutions for the remaining terms will also be found.
