Julian Nagelsmann has reportedly decided to step down as head coach of the German national team following their disappointing exit in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, according to "Bild." The 38-year-old specialist made his decision after a crisis meeting yesterday in Frankfurt with the German Football Association leadership. The three-and-a-half-hour meeting reportedly saw him advised to resign voluntarily.
An official statement is expected in the coming hours. While Julian Nagelsmann's successor has not yet been named, former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is considered the frontrunner for the position. Klopp currently serves as the Global Football Director for Red Bull, as reported by several German media outlets. Nagelsmann took over the Mannschaft in September 2023, replacing Hansi Flick. He had a contract for two more years, extending until Euro 2028.
