N54m fraud trial: Panic as defendant slumps outside courtroom
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the judge had earlier sighted Faniyi sleeping off in the court and ordered him to be taken out of the courtroom.
However, the defendant slumped outside the courtroom, causing passersby to panic.
Faniyi’s relative and some litigants around, however, provided him with first aid treatment and revived him.
A woman who was with the defendant said he had been receiving Malaria treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan.
NAN recalls that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibadan zonal office had in 2018 arraigned Faniyi over his alleged involvement in defrauding an Ibadan based businesswoman of the sum of N54 million.
The judge, having noticed that the defendant could not stand trial, adjourned the case to April 29, for continuation of hearing.
