Church of England should diversify
Can England Churches survive the current decrease in membership?
Last week I reported that the committee of senior clerics of the Church of England recommended that some rural churches in England with less than 10 regular worshippers should become ceremonial Parishes.
By Ceremonial parish it means the parishes involved will only operate on Easter, Christmas and special occasions like weddings, funerals, baptism etc.
Though reports say the idea offers an alternative to being shut down, but i say The Church should think of creative ways to sustain the House of the LORD
Yes, the Church can survive the current decrease in membership... I think the Church of England should think of creative ways to sustain the house of the Lord.
Not necessarily as a church, but as a facility that will solve problems in the community and remind the people of our Lord. Though as people will say, attending service on Sundays do not guarantee your salvation. But it will remind the people that the Lord cares for them, even when they do not have silver or Gold to offer.
The reason Jesus loves little children even when they can only offer their pure hearts (Matthew 19: 14) Is the same reason these parishes should not be denied access in reconnecting with God, be it weekdays or on weekends.
Even if Post offices, banks, schools, pubs, shops and libraries are closed in rural areas and residents have to travel another town or city to find this facilities, they should not be denied of a religious centre as this might likely decrease the numbers of possible believers in that area.
This is my two pence, Diversification is a sure way to solve the decrease in membership.
My Two Cents, What Do You Think!!!
