What would someone gain by bathing another they had professed love for with acid?

Some people are easily pushed to the verge of insanity especially when things don't go their way. Some lovers find it very difficult to take being jilted and can go to any length to seek revenge.

Some even go to the extent of beating the other partner, setting them on fire or pouring acid on them.

Acid attack is becoming very common these days as hurt lovers resort to the act, not minding the effect it would cause on the recipient. Many have died while others have been maimed for life, while many of the culprits are either not apprehended or even when they are, they get very light sentences.
