Despite recent hints of financial stabilization and the arrival of new sponsors promising much-needed funds, this turnaround came too late. After months of unfulfilled promises, the Federation was no longer willing to overlook the club's issues.
According to "Nice-Matin," the FFBB rejected the club's urgent appeal for a case review. Monaco's only remaining legal option was the Administrative Court, but current information suggests the club's management does not intend to file an appeal. Having been denied participation in both the first and second leagues, the three-time French champions, who achieved historic success last season by winning four trophies, are now effectively ousted from professional basketball.
The club's amateur section, boasting 455 registered members, is now attempting to assemble a team to compete in the NM1. The plan is to build the core of the team around young players from the club's academy on professional contracts, supplemented by two foreign players, the maximum allowed under FFBB rules.
A series of meetings is scheduled for next week to try and salvage what remains of the project. This marks a dramatic fall for a club that not long ago played in the EuroLeague final. The French champions had already lost their EuroLeague spot, subsequently being relegated to the EuroCup.
