Croatia captain Luka Modric expressed his deep disappointment after his team's World Cup exit but emphasized that he and his teammates had nothing to be ashamed of following their performance against Portugal.

“We leave the tournament with our heads held high because of the way we played, especially in the second half. We deserved more, but it just wasn't meant to be today,” Modric stated.

The veteran hinted at his surprise regarding some refereeing decisions, though he refrained from elaborating.

“Things didn't go our way, and some of the situations... I think if they had gone the other way, I don't know if they would have been called the same. But it is what it is. We move forward, we can't turn back time,” he commented.

Following the match, Modric was also asked about his future.
