Real Sociedad suffered a disappointing 0-1 home defeat to Getafe in their La Liga Matchday 33 fixture. The hosts at the Reale Arena were plagued by misfortune throughout the match, first missing a penalty and then scoring an own goal, which ultimately proved decisive.
Real Sociedad started the game strongly, and in the 12th minute, appealed for a penalty after a defender handled the ball in the box. Initially, the referee waved play on, but after VAR intervention, he reversed his decision and awarded the spot-kick. Brais Méndez stepped up but missed the penalty, leaving the score unchanged.
The situation worsened for the home side in the 29th minute when Jon Gorrochategi, attempting to intercept a cross, inadvertently directed the ball into his own net, making it 0-1.
Following the own goal, Real Sociedad pushed hard to at least salvage a draw, but luck continued to elude them. Getafe's goalkeeper, David Soria, also made several crucial saves to deny the hosts.
Getafe ultimately secured the victory, despite not registering a single shot on target throughout the match. This win sees the Madrid side accumulate 44 points, climbing to 7th place in the standings and leapfrogging Real Sociedad, who now sit 8th with 42 points.
