Messi's Touching Farewell Letter to His Father: "I Don't Know How I'll Go On"
Leo Messi took to social media to post an emotional farewell letter following the death of his father, Jorge Messi. The footballer shared a photograph alongside his father, accompanied by a text expressing his grief and recalling his father's importance in his life and career.
Jorge Messi, who passed away at 68 in the Sanatorio Centro de Rosario, was a pivotal figure in his son's journey. He personally accompanied Lionel during his initial months in Barcelona while the rest of the family remained in Rosario. Jorge became not only one of his son's primary supporters but also a key player in managing his professional career.
It's worth remembering that Jorge's health had been a cause for concern during the World Cup, with Leo himself admitting he was going through difficult times due to family matters. In his letter, Messi reveals the difficulty in accepting the loss and shares intimate memories, particularly regarding the last World Cup.
"Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I can't process it, or rather, I don't want to process it. It's incredibly hard to imagine that I won't see you anymore, that we won't talk anymore. I know you were suffering and that this is for the best, but you left too soon. We still had so much to enjoy together," began the Inter Miami forward, who recalled his father's wish to see him play in the last World Cup.
"You asked me so much to play in the last World Cup, and days before it started was when you got worse. It was the first time you wouldn't be at a tournament, but Mom told me you would get better and be well enough to travel. I told you we would reach the final so you could travel. We made it to the final, and you couldn't be there. I wanted to win it to bring it to you and show you a new one. I couldn't, my legs just wouldn't give any more. This time I tried to push past my physical limits, but I couldn't. I never managed to feel good," he lamented.
Messi also addressed his continued involvement in football, expressing doubts about his future without his greatest pillar of support.
"I don't know what I'm going to do without you, I don't know how to go on. I only played football, and now I have serious doubts that I'll continue doing it for much longer. You were by my side from the beginning, there was so little left until the end. Why couldn't you hold on for just a little longer so we could finish together?" he added.
In closing, the Argentine praised Jorge's role as a father, friend, and representative, promising to honor his memory in raising his own children.
"You were a father, a friend, and a representative. You were always the person you needed to be at every moment and you never made a mistake. I will miss you terribly, but you will always be present, especially in the upbringing of my children, because I will teach and raise them as you did with me. Rest in peace and watch over us from above as you did here. Thank you for everything. I love you, Dad," he concluded.
