"When I watch Argentina, I feel like I'm seeing the old German national team. They never give up, even in seemingly hopeless situations; quite the opposite," remarked the 79-year-old German, who won the World Cup as a player in 1974 and the European Championship as a coach in 1996.
"The way they turned the game around against Egypt, coming back from 0-2 to win 3-2 – hats off! I probably don't need to emphasize how impressed I am. It's not just Lionel Messi shining, but the entire team. Argentina shines as a collective," Berti Vogts stressed in an interview with Rheinische Post.
England's Coach Also Praised
The former national team coach also lauded the work of Thomas Tuchel, who is leading the English national team at the World Cup. According to Vogts, Tuchel deserves recognition simply for taking on the role in that country.
"He had to anticipate some resistance and sharp words, as the English media aren't known for their gentleness. However, I like how Tuchel handles it, how he addressed these questions, for example, after the quarter-final victory over Norway, and how he remained critical of his own players' attitudes," explained the 96-cap German international.
Both aforementioned teams will face off in Wednesday's second semi-final match. The winner of the Argentina versus England game will then meet the Spanish national team in the World Cup final.
