Lionel Messi has once again etched his name into the history books, scoring against Cape Verde in Argentina's Round of 16 clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The reigning World Champion with the "Albiceleste" from the 2022 Qatar World Cup has now scored in every possible stage of the FIFA World Cup finals.

Before the match against Cape Verde, he had already found the net in all three group stage rounds, as well as in the Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and the Final.

With the introduction of the Round of 16 knockout stage at the North American World Cup – a new phase due to the expansion of participating teams to 48 – the Argentine maestro has now scored in this additional stage as well.

Messi also initiated a remarkable scoring streak at the Qatar World Cup.

That run began with his goal in the first knockout round against Australia, and he continued to score consistently until the grand final, finding the net consecutively against the Netherlands, Croatia, and France.

Subsequently, at the start of the North American World Cup, he scored in all three group stage matches against Algeria, Austria, and Jordan, becoming the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup games.

Now, with his goal against Cape Verde, he has surpassed his own record, becoming the first active player to score in eight consecutive World Cup matches.
