Real Madrid forward and France captain Kylian Mbappé continues his active campaign for the Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded on October 26th at a ceremony in London.

"They won't announce a team name from the envelope, but a player. The ability to perform well individually on the field and catch the observer's eye is what impresses people for a trophy like the Ballon d'Or," the forward stated in an interview with RFI.

"I was the top scorer in all major tournaments this year, and I believe this could be a good year for me; I have that feeling. I truly feel this is a good year for me. I would be disappointed if I didn't win the Ballon d'Or. When a competitor doesn't win, they are disappointed. I am competitive!" he added.

Mbappé finished as the top scorer in the Spanish league (25 goals), the Champions League (15 goals), and the World Cup (10 goals), becoming the player with the most goals in World Cup history – 22.

In the voting, 20 out of 100 votes will come from Africa, which pleases Mbappé, as he has Algerian roots through his mother and Cameroonian roots from his father. "I have always felt loved when I step onto the African continent. It always brings me joy when people talk about me, connecting me with the Ballon d'Or," Mbappé further told RFI.

"Now a new phase begins with a new coach. This is the start, something new. We will have to adapt, but we also need to win consistently, because that's what people expect from us. Of course, everyone expects France to be at the top," Mbappé said regarding Zinedine Zidane's start at the helm of the French national team.

"We live in the same city (Madrid) and have met several times. We know each other, but I was waiting for him to come to the 'castle' (editor's note: Clairefontaine) to understand what he expects from us as a team, and what he expects from me as a player," he said about the new national team coach.

France has four Nations League matches, playing in Turkey and Belgium on September 25th and 28th, before hosting Italy and then Belgium again at the Stade de France.
