Max Verstappen's future in Formula 1 has been a subject of speculation for some time. It's believed the Dutch driver has three potential options for the 2027 season.
Verstappen's current contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2028, but it's rumored to contain performance-related clauses that could allow him an earlier exit. Verstappen has yet to officially confirm his place on the grid for next year, fueling speculation about his potential next destination.
While staying with Red Bull appears to be the most probable outcome, former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger believes discussions are also underway with other teams.
"There are a lot of rumors circulating, a lot of discussions happening right now. Of course, Max has to consider whether he has the opportunity to continue winning the world championship next year. This always sparks discussions – one is about McLaren, another about Mercedes, and a third about Red Bull. This is typical for this time of year," Berger told the official Formula 1 website.
Verstappen has expressed dissatisfaction with Red Bull's performance this year and the car's balance issues. They are the only team in the top four yet to secure a victory this season. Berger suggests Verstappen would be less inclined to switch teams if Red Bull returns in improved form after the summer break.
"After the summer break, we'll see if Red Bull has resolved their reliability issues, if teams will introduce some modifications, and who will be the favorite in the second half of the season. All we want to see, and what the fans want to see, are three or four teams at a similar level – and everyone having a chance to win," the Austrian stated.
