Starting from pole position, the world champion held the lead off the line, while Jorge Martin immediately charged up two places to slot into second. At the end of lap two, the "Martinator" briefly lost second place to Alex Marquez, but fought back to reclaim the spot before the halfway mark of lap three.

Under braking into Turn 10—the exact spot where he had been overtaken by the younger Marquez a lap earlier—the Aprilia rider made his move on Marc Marquez to take the lead. The Martinator held the advantage until lap five, when an error at Turn 4 opened the door for Marc Marquez to retake P1.

Martin launched several more counterattacks, but Marquez successfully fended off each attempt. The decisive moment came on lap eight when Martin lost the front end of his bike at Turn 8 and suffered a crash at just over 200 km/h, bringing an abrupt end to his sprint contest.

Martin's crash allowed Marquez to manage his pace to the finish with his brother right behind him. At the checkered flag, the duo was separated by just 0.323 seconds, while Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium.

Marco Bezzecchi suffered a dreadful getaway, dropping from ninth on the grid down to 12th, but delivered a strong recovery ride to climb all the way to fourth. Pedro Acosta finished fifth, ahead of Ai Ogura, Brad Binder, Jack Miller, and Diogo Moreira, who completed the points-paying positions.

Following today's victory and Martin's DNF, Marquez leads the championship standings with 365 points, holding a 10-point advantage over Martin. Bezzecchi sits in third place, exactly 50 points behind the leader.

The Australian Grand Prix, Round 18 of the 2026 MotoGP season, is scheduled to get underway tomorrow at 05:00 Bulgarian time.
