For the first time since the start of the 2026 season, Marc Marquez has taken the lead in the MotoGP overall standings. This achievement came after the world champion secured his sixth career victory at the San Marino Grand Prix. This marks his seventh win at Misano in the premier class, having also triumphed at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 2021.
Finishing second behind the Ducati rider was his younger brother Alex, completing the first one-two finish for the siblings this season. For the Gresini Ducati rider, today's second place is his second podium finish of the year and his first since his victory at Jerez in late April.
Highlights from the San Marino MotoGP Grand Prix:
Start - Bezzechi got off to a strong start, managing to block Marc Marquez into the first corner and maintain his lead. Behind them, Martin capitalized on the battle between Aldeguer and Di Giannantonio in the opening turns to move into third place, behind Bezzechi and Marc Marquez.
Lap 1/27 - A nightmare for Bezzechi, who crashed at Turn 13, retiring from the race while leading. This allowed Marc Marquez to take the lead ahead of Martin and Aldeguer.
Lap 2/27 - Midway through the second lap, Aldeguer lost third position to Acosta and was even challenged by his teammate Alex Marquez, but managed to hold off the younger Marquez brother.
Lap 3/27 - This time, Alex Marquez was more decisive in his attack on Aldeguer, moving into fourth position with an overtake at the first corner.
Lap 4/27 - Alex Marquez attacked Acosta at Turn 8, passing him for third place before the KTM rider successfully countered in the Turn 9 and 10 combination. Braking into Turn 14, Alex Marquez was much more determined in his attack, leaving Acosta no chance to block him and securing a spot in the top three.
Lap 6/27 - Bagnaia's nightmare season continued with a crash at Turn 2. This marks his seventh Sunday retirement of the season and his third in a row. Before his fall, the two-time champion was running at the very bottom of the top 10.
Lap 7/27 - A superb run through Turn 3 allowed Martin to attack leader Marc Marquez under braking for the sharp Turn 4. The Aprilia rider's maneuver was successful, and he took the lead.
Lap 9/27 - After losing the lead, Marc Marquez fell behind Martin and was caught by his brother Alex, who was visibly faster in this part of the race.
Lap 10/27 - Marc Marquez slightly increased his pace but remained just over 0.4 seconds behind Martin and led his brother by 0.3 seconds.
Lap 12/27 - After catching Martin, Marc Marquez regained the lead with a surprise attack at Turn 6, catching Martin slightly off guard. Alex Marquez couldn't capitalize on the situation and remained in third place.
Lap 13/27 - A mistake by Martin, who went too deep into Turn 8, but Alex Marquez wasn't close enough to take advantage.
Lap 14/27 - Two laps after his brother, Alex Marquez also overtook Martin with an attack at Turn 6. Meanwhile, Acosta also caught up to the riders battling for second place.
Lap 16/27 - Acosta executed a very late braking maneuver into the sharp Turn 8, allowing him to overtake Martin and move into third position behind the Marquez brothers.
Lap 17/27 - Bad news for Martin, as Aldeguer was less than half a second behind him, having been among the fastest riders on track in recent laps.
Lap 19/27 - At the front, Marc Marquez led his brother by a second, who in turn had a 1.6-second advantage over Acosta, who had pulled 1.2 seconds clear of Martin. Aldeguer was right behind Martinator, already looking for a way past the Aprilia rider.
Lap 20/27 - For the third time in the race, Martin was overtaken by a Ducati rider at Turn 6, as Aldeguer executed the same maneuver that had earlier allowed the Marquez brothers to pass Martinator.
Lap 22/27 - With several strong laps, Alex Marquez closed to within 0.4 seconds of his brother Marc in the battle for victory before the final five laps of the race.
Lap 23/27 - Marc responded to Alex's increased pace, adding 0.2 seconds to his lead. However, both brothers were slower than Acosta, who was about a second behind Alex Marquez.
Lap 25/27 - Two laps from the finish, Marc Marquez led his brother by half a second, with Acosta 1.3 seconds behind the leading duo.
Finish - Marc Marquez secured his fifth victory of the season, Alex Marquez finished second, and Pedro Acosta completed the podium at the San Marino Grand Prix.
