Marc Marquez Hints at Impending MotoGP Retirement

Marc Marquez has admitted for the first time that there is a strong possibility he will bring the curtain down on his racing career once his current Ducati contract expires.

Earlier this year, the 33-year-old Spaniard signed a new two-year contract with the Italian manufacturer's factory MotoGP outfit. The deal was struck despite ongoing concerns over his physical condition following a shoulder injury sustained last October.

By the time his current agreement concludes, Marquez will be 35. Unlike MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, who continued racing at the pinnacle of the sport well into his forties, Marquez has endured a string of severe injuries over the years, making such longevity on track improbable.

“This time, the question is a bit more difficult to answer. I can't say with absolute certainty, but if I had to put a number on it, I'd say there is about a 70% chance I retire within three years, and only a 30% chance I keep racing,” Marquez said in an interview with Autosport.

Marquez staged a remarkable recovery from a severe arm fracture suffered in 2020 to capture his seventh world title last season—his first aboard a Ducati. At the time, he revealed that he had finally found inner peace following years of adversity.

Marquez currently holds a 10-point lead at the top of the championship standings over his main rival, Jorge Martin. With Martin battling injury and just four rounds remaining this season, Marc's chances of clinching an eighth premier-class world crown look increasingly strong. Nonetheless, Marquez insists that even if he fails to add another title to his tally, he will end his career completely content with his achievements.

“That triumph [in 2025] changed the way I will walk away when the time comes. From now on, winning another title or not won't make a difference. When the time arrives to stop, I will do so as a free man who is completely at peace with himself,” the Spaniard concluded.
