France's national team midfielder, Manu Koné, who made his major tournament debut at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, was visibly emotional days after the competition concluded. He broke down in tears following France's 0-2 semi-final loss to Spain.
"We failed to complete our mission. The days pass, but the pain remains. Seeing the disappointment in your eyes breaks our hearts," the AS Roma player posted on his Instagram.
"I will always be eternally grateful to have played in my first World Cup, representing France," added the midfielder, who was also part of Thierry Henry's French Olympic squad that reached the final of the Paris 2024 Games.
"I don't think 'thank you' is a strong enough word for the coach, the staff, and all the people who worked behind the scenes to ensure we had the best conditions. We wanted to give you the best gift. We wanted to offer a great celebration for all the fans, but it didn't turn out that way. With pride, faith, and your support, we will rise again," he promised.
The French midfielder is already attracting interest from several major European clubs, including Manchester United.
