Manuel Gonzalez ended his Moto2 dry spell, which stretched back to his victory in Hungary on May 31st, by triumphing at the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano. This marks the Spaniard's fifth win of the season in the intermediate class of the MotoGP World Championship.

The race at Misano began dramatically, as all three riders starting from the front row crashed out at the very first corner. The incident was triggered by Angel Piqueras, who braked too late for the first turn, colliding first with Dani Holgado and then with Senna Agius, leading to the triple pile-up.

This allowed Colin Veijer to take the lead ahead of Gonzalez, with the pair maintaining this order until the middle of the fifth lap. It was then that championship leader Gonzalez executed a decisive attack under braking into Turn 8 to seize the top spot.

For the remainder of the 22-lap distance, the IntactGP rider controlled the race, despite coming close to incurring a penalty that would have forced him to take a long lap. This would have been due to exceeding track limits too many times, but Gonzalez only received an official warning, avoiding a penalty.

He ultimately won with a 2.4-second lead over Veijer, who secured his second podium finish of the season. Earlier, the Dutch rider finished third at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

Barry Baltus completed the top three, despite having to take a long lap shortly after the halfway point of the race for exceeding track limits too often. This took the Belgian rider out of contention for the win, as he finished 4.6 seconds behind the victor.

Ivan Ortolá secured fourth place ahead of Tony Arbolino, who finished fifth. Izan Guevara was sixth, followed by Celestino Vietti, Alonso Lopez, David Alonso, and Alex Escrig, who rounded out the top 10. Points from the San Marino Grand Prix in Moto2 were also earned by Adrian Huertas, Dani Muñoz, Joe Roberts, Adrian Fernandez, and Aron Canet.

In the overall standings after the first 14 races of the year, Gonzalez leads with 232.5 points, holding a 47.5-point advantage over his closest rival, Guevara. Ortolá, with his fourth-place finish today, moved into third, 75 points behind, overtaking Agius, who crashed out on the first lap.

The Moto2 season will continue next week with the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.
