Manchester United target striker from bitter rivals

Manchester United are monitoring England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they look to raid fierce rivals Leeds United for attacking reinforcements.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils are eager to bolster their attacking options during the January transfer window following an injury to Benjamin Šeško.

The Slovenian forward suffered a tibia injury during September's 3-2 cup defeat against Brighton and is expected to be sidelined until at least January. Šeško had managed just six appearances and two goals in the current campaign, having scored 12 goals in 32 matches last season.

"We don't know exactly how long he will be out, but it will be a lengthy spell," manager Michael Carrick told the club's official website. Carrick retains the backing of the board for now, at least heading into Saturday's high-stakes clash away at Chelsea.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Calvert-Lewin is enjoying a fine run of form at Leeds after several injury-plagued campaigns at Everton. Since arriving at Elland Road on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, the striker has netted 20 goals and provided one assist in 49 matches.

He has scored four goals in eight Premier League appearances this season, firing Leeds up to seventh in the table. His standout performances earned him an England recall in March following a five-year international absence.

Any potential move to Old Trafford will be far from straightforward. Calvert-Lewin remains under contract until the summer of 2028, with Leeds keen to tie him down to an extension. The fierce historical rivalry between the two sides, rooted in the Roses derby between Lancashire and Yorkshire, poses another major hurdle. Transfers between the clubs have historically sparked huge controversy, most notably those of Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand, and Alan Smith.
