Manchester United has secured the signing of 17-year-old Kareem Kasim from Manchester City. The talented England youth international was a key part of the Citizens' squad that won the FA Youth Cup last season in his age group. However, he has opted to continue his career with the fierce city rivals, swapping the sky blue jersey for red.
At Old Trafford, there's a strong belief that Kasim possesses the potential to break into the first team.
This decision comes at a time when academy players are under increased scrutiny, especially after reports emerged that highly-rated 15-year-old United talent J.J. Gabriel expressed a desire to leave the club amidst interest from other teams.
United is also expected to announce the acquisition of Isaac Conde from Liverpool, pending Premier League approval. The club has already received clearance for the transfer of David Eze from City.
Due to Brexit-related regulations, the scope for scouting new academy talents is practically limited to the United Kingdom. This has led the club to proactively recruit players from neighboring teams over the past few years.
