Manchester United could benefit from a second lucrative sell-on clause, this time linked to a potential departure for Alejandro Garnacho, as Mason Greenwood nears a move to Fenerbahçe. Things have been challenging for Garnacho since his £40 million switch from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge last summer.
The Argentine failed to make a significant impact in West London as the Blues slumped to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League, missing out on European competition entirely. This has fueled speculation that the 22-year-old could be sold. Local media even suggest that Stamford Bridge is open to offers in the region of £42.5 million.
Old Trafford could pocket an additional sum from last year's sale of Garnacho, having inserted a 10 percent sell-on clause into the agreement. This entitles them to a share of any future transfer fee if Chelsea decides to part ways with the player. According to reports from Italy, Roma has shown interest in the United academy product.
It's believed that the Serie A club's qualification for the Champions League would enable them to make a permanent transfer if they wish, although they would ideally prefer to sign the winger on loan with an option to buy. As Garnacho is an academy product, having joined United from Atletico Madrid for just £100,000 in 2020, the initial £40 million fee received from Chelsea was registered as pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.
