Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has undergone successful surgery after rupturing his knee ligaments, the club announced. The midfielder sustained the injury while representing Uruguay at the World Cup, where the "Celeste" were eliminated in the group stage after a disappointing performance. Ugarte will now begin his recovery and rehabilitation under the supervision of the Red Devils' medical team. He is expected to be sidelined for six to eight months.
The Uruguayan joined Old Trafford in the summer of 2024 for 50 million euros from PSG but failed to establish himself in the Manchester United squad. Last season, under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick, he was frequently benched and saw increasingly limited playing time. Local media had suggested that the English club planned to offload the player, but given the current situation, he is now certain to remain with the team at least until the winter transfer window.
