Manchester United has appointed a new specialist to join Michael Carrick's staff. Conor King will take on the role of first-team goalkeeping coach, arriving from Burnley where he spent the last five years.

King, only 27 years old, retired from his active playing career at the age of 21.

The Red Devils' head goalkeeping coach, Craig Mawson, also joined Manchester United from Burnley in 2020, so he is very familiar with King from their time together at Turf Moor.

Mawson had been the sole goalkeeping coach at Manchester United since January, following Jorge Vital's departure alongside Ruben Amorim. Historically, Old Trafford has typically employed two goalkeeping coaches since 2019.

Michael Carrick himself is already feeling significant pressure, with the team securing only one Premier League victory this season. After five rounds, they now trail league leaders Manchester City by 15 points. Many of the Red Devils' players are out of form at the start of the campaign. Sene Lamens, who had a very successful last season, has also conceded some soft goals, although this current appointment is unlikely to be a direct result of that.
