Manchester United fear Benjamin Sesko could be sidelined until the new year following complications in his recovery from injury. According to a report from The Sun, medical assessments conducted at the club's Carrington training complex have heightened concerns that the striker could be facing up to four months out.

The 23-year-old Slovenia international has been out of action for five weeks with a new setback, distinct from the lower-leg issue that previously troubled him for six months. Although those close to the player hope his absence will not stretch into February, the club are already bracing for an extended recovery period.

Sesko's prolonged layoff could force United to target a new centre-forward in the winter transfer window. The Red Devils decided against adding another striker in the summer after failing to find a departure route for Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman has found playing time hard to come by under Michael Carrick, starting only once in 27 matches under the manager. In Sesko's absence, Carrick has relied on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to lead the line, with Mbeumo ranking among the side's top scorers this season with four goals. Meanwhile, United will also look to resolve Zirkzee's future, with the club planning to sell him next year.

Carrick himself expects greater clarity on the forward's condition before the end of the week. "We hope to have a clear picture very soon. I'm not trying to hold back information. Hopefully the next time we speak—maybe not tomorrow, but by the end of the week—we'll be able to say something more definitive. It's being worked on right now and we'll see where we end up," the manager said.
