Man begs SportyBet to refund over ₦6m lost in betting, says ₦80,000 free bet is not enough
A man identified as FELO on X claims he lost over ₦6 million betting and appealed to SportyBet for assistance.
He says the platform offered him an ₦80,000 free bet, which he believes does not address his reported loss.
Social media users have criticised his appeal and suggested betting strategies
Losing money on a football bet is one thing. Losing millions you can barely afford to part with, and then asking the betting company to help you recover it is another.
A man who says he lost more than ₦6 million on SportyBet has appealed to the betting platform for help, but social media users are divided between mocking his request and suggesting ways to use his ₦80,000 free bet.
The man, identified as Felix Olamide Komolafe in a screenshot of his SportyBet account shared on X, posts on the platform as FELO (@Extremefelo).
He shared a lengthy message addressed to SportyBet's customer support team, saying he had been waiting for a meaningful response since losing the money the previous day.
According to his post, the platform offered him an ₦80,000 free bet, but he argued that the gesture did little to ease the financial and emotional distress caused by the reported loss.
“What am I supposed to do with ₦80,000 free bet when I lost over ₦6 million yesterday?” he asked.
He said the money meant a lot to him and appealed to SportyBet to review his complaint and consider offering financial assistance or another form of support.
“I have learned a very painful lesson from this experience, and I never want to find myself in this kind of situation again,” he wrote.
The post has also divided social media users, with some mocking the appeal while others offered suggestions for what to do with the free bet.
One user, @wezzyverse_, suggested that the man could use the free bet to try to win back his money through a series of football bets.
“With that free bet Carry Chelsea to beat united next match (boom it),” the user wrote, going on to suggest rolling over potential winnings through subsequent matches.

Similarly, @t_crypto08 proposed placing bets with high odds to turn the ₦80,000 bonus into a much larger sum. The suggestion reflected the same risky logic of trying to recover gambling losses by placing more bets.
Others were less sympathetic. Vikktor argued that losing a bet was not a reason to demand a refund from the platform, sarcastically suggesting that football authorities should cancel and replay a match if a bettor's prediction went wrong.
Mr Hillz also questioned the man's expectations, writing: “You don’t know the world in which you’ve ventured into.”
He added that if the man's selection had genuinely lost, there was little reason to expect the betting company to return his stake.
SportyBet's response to the complaint has not been independently verified, and the reported loss remains unconfirmed.
The reactions have raised a deeper question about the risks of sports betting, particularly when people stake money they cannot afford to lose.
