Manchester City has informed Barcelona that they must pay £70 million if they wish to sign Rodri, the captain of Spain's World Cup-winning squad. The Citizens rejected a second offer for the midfielder, valued at £51.3 million plus an additional £5 million in bonuses, deeming it unacceptable. Barcelona's initial bid was a mere £38.5 million.
Now, with City having set a firm price, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will return to the negotiating table or await developments regarding Rodri's situation when he returns to Manchester for pre-season training on Friday.
The English club is reportedly interested in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as a direct replacement for the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner. However, City is aware that the London club values the Argentine at a hefty £120 million.
Rodri, the 30-year-old midfielder, was named the World Cup's best player and appears to have overcome the injury woes that plagued him over the past two seasons.
