Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour could be forced to sell the club as part of potential sanctions following breaches of Premier League financial rules, according to the Mirror. The report claims that being stripped of ownership is among the possible penalties, although the final sanctions are yet to be determined.

An independent commission found City guilty of all charges relating to serious financial breaches between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons, as well as three of four charges for failing to cooperate with the investigation. The Premier League claims the club used disguised contracts to artificially inflate revenue and disguise costs. Manchester City have rejected the findings and confirmed they will appeal the decision. The club have until Friday to submit their appeal, with the definitive punishments still pending.

The British press has widely speculated on a range of penalties, with substantial fines, points deductions, and transfer bans deemed the most likely. Amid these reports, claims that the current ownership could be forced out come as a major twist. A precedent occurred in recent years when the UK government forced Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich to sell Chelsea following domestic sanctions.
