Man City vs Brighton: Citizens stunned as Seagulls claim first-ever away win at Etihad
Brighton won away at Manchester City in the Premier League for the first time in their history after claiming a shock 1-0 victory.
The Seagulls had a first-half goal from Swedish midfielder Yashin Ayari to thank for their shock win.
Man City vs Brighton: How it happened
The hosts started brightly and took the lead after just 11 minutes when Maxim De Cuyper kept Diego Gomez’s cross alive, allowing Yasin Ayari to poke the ball home.
City struggled to respond despite creating several opportunities. Iliman Ndiaye missed a free header before seeing another effort comfortably saved by Bart Verbruggen. Brighton captain Lewis Dunk also produced two crucial blocks to deny Erling Haaland, frustrating the Norwegian before half-time.
Brighton nearly doubled their advantage shortly after the restart when De Cuyper wasted a promising opportunity, firing over from close range after being set up by Ayari.
City introduced Rayan Cherki in an attempt to change the game, and the substitute quickly created an opening for Enzo Fernandez, who dragged his effort narrowly wide. Verbruggen then produced an excellent save to deny Matheus Nunes as the visitors increased their attacking pressure.
Enzo Maresca introduced Phil Foden late on in another attempt to rescue a result, but Brighton remained organised and successfully dealt with City's repeated deliveries into the penalty area.
The Seagulls held on to claim all three points, while City suffered a frustrating defeat despite dominating much of the attacking play.
