The Malaysian Grand Prix weekend has come to an early end for Raul Fernandez, with the Spaniard pulling out before the end of Free Practice 1 at the Sepang International Circuit.
The Trackhouse Aprilia rider was forced to withdraw from Round 19 of the MotoGP season after completing just five laps due to a fractured index finger on his right hand. Fernandez initially suffered the injury in the Indonesian sprint three weeks ago, yet battled on to secure a second-place finish in the Grand Prix at Mandalika the following day. Last weekend in Australia, severe pain—exacerbated by a Friday practice crash at Phillip Island—saw him sit out the sprint, before the Sunday feature race was ultimately cancelled.
Trackhouse Aprilia confirmed that Fernandez will return to Europe as soon as possible to undergo rehabilitation. The goal is for him to be back on the bike in time for the Qatar Grand Prix next weekend.
