Major News from the Region: Cibona Under New Ownership!

Basketball powerhouse Cibona has spent the last few years on the brink of collapse, but brighter days are finally ahead after a Canadian banker completed a takeover to establish a new ownership structure.

Cibona has officially completed its restructuring from a sports association into a joint-stock company. Canadian-Croatian banker Victor Dodig has taken over as the new majority owner with a 69.96% stake. The investment process spanned over two months, with Dodig injecting €1,730,000 into the club.

"From day one and the initial investment in Cibona, I had a clear vision and ambition to return the club to the heights it deserves. We want to establish a competitive European outfit backed by a solid management strategy at every level. Zagreb and Croatia love basketball and cherish Cibona, so I am confident we will once again fill the arena to host Europe's best teams. By transforming into a joint-stock company, the club has gained dedicated owners ready to inject their own capital into this project, and I am especially proud to lead this group. The City of Zagreb and select enterprises hold a combined 6.1% share, while various private companies make up the remainder of the ownership structure.
