The 2026 World Cup Round of 16 clash between Mexico and England at the Estadio Azteca is highly likely to undergo a significant schedule change, moving to a much earlier kick-off time than originally planned, according to reports from both nations.

Initially, one of the most anticipated fixtures of this stage was set for 6:00 PM Mexican time, which translates to 3:00 AM Bulgarian time. However, the match is now expected to be brought forward by a full six hours, kicking off on Sunday at 9:00 PM Bulgarian time. This would mean a 12:00 PM noon start in Mexico. While this would undoubtedly be excellent news for fans eager to watch the game, it will certainly create additional logistical challenges for the teams, supporters, and organizers.

Mexican media outlets are reporting that the match at the Azteca will be rescheduled due to the risk of storms, citing sources familiar with the situation. As of now, no official decision has been announced.

FIFA's regulations for the 2026 World Cup state that the global football federation “has the right to cancel, reschedule or relocate one or more matches (or the entire FIFA World Cup 2026) for any reason at its sole discretion, including as a result of force majeure or for health, safety or security reasons.”

Mexico's match against Ecuador earlier this week was delayed due to torrential rain. Prior to that, the second half between France and Iraq was held up for nearly two hours, also due to a storm. There is also a risk of adverse weather affecting today's Round of 16 match between Argentina and Cape Verde.
