Manchester United's 33-year-old defender, Harry Maguire, is reportedly close to agreeing a one-year contract extension, but has set a specific condition, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The centre-back's current contract expires this summer, and Maguire's preference is to remain at Old Trafford. Recent negotiations have brought both parties closer, but a final agreement has yet to be reached.
Maguire's demand centers on a guarantee that he will continue to be a key player within the squad. "I don't want to stay for sentimental value. I want to stay because I want to be here and the club wants me to help drive the team forward, and they feel I have an important role to play. If that's the case, I'm sure we'll come to an agreement," he stated.
Despite no longer holding the United captaincy, Maguire is described as a fundamental figure in the Carrington dressing room. The additional one-year contract could potentially include an option to extend until 2028.
