French President Emmanuel Macron took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express his gratitude to national team coach Didier Deschamps, following France's 6-4 defeat in the third-place playoff at the 2026 World Cup.
Even before the match, the head of state had posted a video highlighting key moments from Deschamps' career, both as a coach and as a national player. These two phases of the football specialist's life span nearly 40 years, during which France secured both of its World Cup titles to date.
"A page of French football turns tonight. Thank you, Didier Deschamps, for the legendary victories, the intense emotions, for wearing the 'Blues' all these years and making France tremble. 40 years: the Deschamps generation," Macron wrote.
Now, only one more match remains in the 2026 World Cup, also scheduled for today, July 19th (Sunday). At 10:00 PM Bulgarian time, Argentina and Spain will face off in the tournament's grand final. This match, along with all 104 games from the global championship in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, can be watched live on bnt.sportal.bg.
