Pavel Sulc, Lyon's 25-year-old midfielder, has revealed he turned down a transfer to Wrexham, a move that would have netted the French club, managed by Paulo Fonseca, over 40 million euros.
The switch, he explained, could have happened during the last summer transfer window. The Czech international made no secret of his reasons for rejecting a move to the Welsh club, which competes in the Championship.
According to French media, it was an open secret that Sulc was close to leaving the Gones in the summer, but only now, ahead of Czech Republic's clash with Croatia, has the player addressed the topic.
Speaking to the newspaper Seznam Zpravy, the creative midfielder for Lyon, who has since recovered from injury and is back at the disposal of the Portuguese coach, was brutally honest about his decision.
"To be honest, Wrexham feels like a Hollywood fairytale. I didn't want to go to the Championship or a small town in Wales. I hope this isn't seen as disrespectful," he stated.
