Michael Carrick is reportedly nearing a permanent managerial role at Manchester United. He has revitalized the team, significantly improving the Red Devils' results. With other candidates for the position declining offers from the club, the Englishman's chances are considerably boosted.
According to English media, Luis Enrique was among the top candidates desired by the Manchester United hierarchy. However, the Spaniard is expected to reject an offer from the English club and instead sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Other prominent coaches reportedly unwilling to move to Old Trafford include Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti.
The Red Devils' bosses are inclined to keep Carrick at the helm, at least in the short term. Naturally, his prospects would significantly improve if the team secures a spot in the Champions League for next season. A final decision regarding the manager, however, is expected at the end of the current campaign.
