Lovernj Speaks His Mind: "When I Watch Partizan, I Want to See Serbian Players!"
EuroLeague teams, over time, tend to become increasingly similar, a point Žofri Lovernj recently discussed with "Skweek."
"When I was a kid and followed Panathinaikos, I watched Spanoulis, Fotsis, and Diamantidis. Of course, there were Americans too, but those clubs featured the best European players." Žofri Lovernj
Lovernj cited Žalgiris and Partizan as prime examples of clubs that have successfully preserved their unique identities.
"When I watch Žalgiris, I want to see Lithuanian players. When I watch Partizan, I want to see Serbian players. I don't want all clubs to look the same." Žofri Lovernj
The former black-and-whites captain is aware that his perspective might not align with current trends in modern European basketball, but he firmly stands by his convictions.
"Some might say I'm old-fashioned, but that's my opinion." Žofri Lovernj
Lovernj deeply understands the critical role a strong domestic player base plays in shaping Partizan's identity. During his initial stint in Belgrade, he became a fan favorite and made history as the club's first foreign captain.
Partizan was the last EuroLeague team to announce its first summer signing, and fans are still eagerly awaiting the completion of the roster to gauge expectations for the upcoming season.
