Lisandro Martinez: "This was a huge injustice"

Manchester United's central defender, Lisandro Martinez, did not hide his immense frustration with the referee's decision that ultimately decided the Manchester derby against Manchester City (0-1). The Argentine international shared that a feeling of total injustice permeated the "Red Devils'" locker room, as Erling Haaland's winning goal was allowed despite the significant influence on play from Enzo Fernandez, who was in an offside position.

"The feeling in the locker room after the match is one of immense injustice. We are all furious because we gave absolutely everything on the pitch. The way that goal came about fills us with helpless anger. Enzo Fernandez was clearly offside and went for the ball right in front of me. As a defender, I was obligated to react to his movement to prevent him from playing the ball. This entirely affected my positioning and the whole situation. It's shocking that after reviewing the situation with VAR, the referees decided he didn't influence the play. That decision truly broke us," Martinez began.

"Phil Foden's red card in the 23rd minute gave us a significant advantage, and we should have controlled the game much better. We came out for the second half with great intensity, applied pressure, but that refereeing decision (regarding Haaland's goal) completely altered the psychological dynamic on the field. After the goal, we tried everything, but City defended well, and we weren't creative enough in attack to equalize. We need to be more decisive in the final third when we have a man advantage," the Argentine added.

"This loss hurts immensely because it's the Manchester derby, and we know what it means to our fans. However, the season is very long, and this result won't stop us. We are a strong and united team. We have new matches this week, and we need to show the right reaction. We must immediately return to winning ways and correct our mistakes," the defender concluded.
