Following a strong season, Liam Lawson appears to be in a favorable position regarding his future. The driver himself believes he is "in a better position" for his Formula 1 career this year compared to the same point last season.

Ahead of this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Lawson returned to the Racing Bulls team after three races with Red Bull, where he filled in for Isack Hadjar. The French driver sustained a wrist injury during practice over the summer break.

Red Bull has already confirmed Hadjar as Max Verstappen's teammate for 2027, effectively closing the door on Lawson's return to the main team. Now, the New Zealander's Formula 1 future rests entirely with Racing Bulls, with Lawson expecting an announcement regarding his potential stay with the Faenza-based squad very soon.

"There will probably be an announcement soon. I'd say within the next few races. At this time of year, obviously, all these decisions are being made. It's something that's being discussed in the background," Lawson explained. "For me, it's not a topic I discuss too much. I'm just trying to keep scoring points. Perhaps that made racing with Red Bull a bit more challenging or made me a bit more vulnerable.""Simply because it's a car that's quite difficult to drive, and I'm not used to it, and at this time of year, it's quite tough. But the races were good, and now I'm excited to be back," Lawson concluded.

Should Lawson remain with Racing Bulls, it would be at the expense of Nikola Tsolov, for whom no full-time seat would be available within the Red Bull camp. Thus, the Bulgarian Lion would likely take on a reserve driver role, which he could combine with a racing program in Japan's Super Formula.
