Lewis Hamilton has committed to continuing in Formula 1 until at least 2031, when he will be 46, driven by a long-standing ambition to race on the African continent.
Currently 41, the seven-time world champion could extend his career if the provisional date for the inaugural Rwandan Grand Prix, projected for 2031, is confirmed.
The deal to bring motorsport's premier category back to Africa was announced last week, aligning with Hamilton's desire to compete on the continent where his paternal heritage lies. Formula 1's last race on African soil took place at Kyalami, South Africa, in 1993.
Looking ahead to the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, the British driver explained his motivation: "Now I'm forced to stay a bit longer because we have a race in Africa, and racing in Africa has always been my dream. So I'll have to keep working hard to stay fit. If I can keep delivering results over the next few years, we'll keep going."
Despite the excitement, Rwanda's involvement has sparked significant controversy due to its human rights record and allegations of sportswashing. The Visit Rwanda brand previously drew criticism during its eight-year sponsorship of Arsenal, which ended in June, and now features as Aston Villa's primary shirt sponsor.
Kim Kardashian 'very happy'
Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian has openly addressed her relationship with Hamilton, offering the clearest indication yet that romance with the Formula 1 driver is thriving. The entrepreneur and reality star revealed that her new partner—without naming him directly—ticks every box on her demanding relationship checklist.
The admission came during a recent episode of the reality show The Kardashians. Speaking to comedian Nikki Glaser, Kim discussed a list of more than 50 qualities she seeks in an ideal partner, hinting she has finally found someone who possesses every single one. Pressed for details, she held back: "You guys are really trying to get it out of me. Let me just say this: I'm just very, very happy. That's all I'm going to say for now."
