English football legend Gary Lineker has extended his gratitude to Mohamed Salah for “everything he has done for English football,” following the Liverpool icon's announcement that he will depart the Reds at the end of the season. The champions' forward will conclude his illustrious career at Anfield after the current campaign, bringing an end to his nine-year tenure at the club, during which he established himself as one of the greatest players in modern Premier League history.
Former England captain and “Match of the Day” host Gary Lineker reacted to the news on “The Rest is Football” podcast's X (formerly Twitter) profile, posting a video in which he thanked Salah.
“The news has broken that Mohamed Salah will be leaving at the end of the season. Nine years at Liverpool – and what nine years they have been! He has been phenomenal,” Lineker stated.
“An unbelievably brilliant footballer. Two league titles, a Champions League, two League Cups, an FA Cup, a Super Cup, and, of course, the Club World Cup. He has scored so many goals, been so consistent for such a long period of time, and I just want to say: thank you, Mo, for everything you have done for English football, and particularly for the Premier League and, of course, for Liverpool.”
“You have been a credit to our sport, it's been great to have you here, and I wish you all the very best in the future, whatever that may bring,” Lineker concluded.
