Singer cancels gig in London, claims legal ban from Britain

Lauryn Hill has cancelled her upcoming gig in London, claiming that she is not allowed into the UK for legal reasons.

Hill was scheduled to perform at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on July 15. However, the gig will no longer go ahead with the singer disclosing online that her "past legal situation" prohibits her from entering England.

In a message posted on Facebook, Hill wrote: "I’ve been informed that I won’t be able to enter the UK for a period of time due to my past legal situation."For this reason I have to cancel my concert on July 15th. Know that I was looking forward to performing in London this summer, and that I appreciate all of my fans and supporters both in London, and throughout the UK. I look forward to seeing you again as soon as I'm able to."

In May 2015, Lauryn Hill also cancelled a gig in Nigeria. The singer was scheduled to perform at the Eko Hotels, Lagos, for the May Day Live show, but didn’t make the journey to the country. According to her in a statement released on Facebook, she did all that she could but things were not properly put in place by the promoters.

In July 2013 Hill spent three-months in prison for failing to pay taxes on over £1m in earnings. However, her series of shows in London came last September, following her release from prison.

The 39-year-old former Fugees member hasn't released a studio album since 1998 and, in recent years, has become known as something of an erratic live performer. The London gigs were met with harsh Twitter criticism.

Following an appearance at the O2 Academy Brixton in September 2014, Hill began to trend on the social network after attendees complained that she was an hour and a half late onstage and that the revamped versions her of classic songs were nearly unrecognisable from the original versions.Hill also recently cancelled a concert in Israel due to her inability to book a corresponding gig in Palestine.
