Barcelona President Joan Laporta has thrown his weight behind Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d'Or, while also expressing confidence that UEFA will select Spotify Camp Nou to host the 2029 Champions League final. Yamal himself recently stated his belief that he should win the prestigious award, and his club president is fully supportive: “Lamine said what he had to say.”

“I would be delighted if Yamal wins the Ballon d'Or, and I believe he deserves it,” Laporta continued. “Do I think it's appropriate for him to say he deserves the Ballon d'Or? Of course, because others do the same for themselves. The world has changed a bit, and these young people are very spontaneous. Lamine said it with a certain tone... in a good way.”

Laporta noted that “it must be understood that these are young and uninhibited players. That's why they succeed so quickly. Lamine has talent and is a leading footballer.”

Regarding Rodri's statements that Barcelona has taken a stance in favor of Lamine Yamal winning the Ballon d'Or, the 'Cules' president clarified: “We support all Barcelona players, but it's true that Lamine has earned his merits with Barça.”

“Rodri is a very sensible and mature person. He is a leader. And the fact that he holds such a position regarding this award speaks volumes about him,” Laporta further commented on the program “El Partidazo de COPE.”
