Jonathan Kuminga is reportedly considering a move to either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to journalist Jake Fischer. These two teams are said to be Kuminga's top choices for the next chapter of his NBA career.
Both clubs could only offer the forward a veteran minimum contract unless additional deals are made. A more lucrative agreement is possible through a sign-and-trade, but this option is complicated by salary cap restrictions and would require the involvement of a third team.
According to Fischer's report, Kuminga is currently leaning towards joining the Lakers. The best-case scenario for him would be a sign-and-trade, which would likely require the Californians to find a third team willing to take on the contracts of Jared Vanderbilt or Dalton Knecht.
The forward became a free agent after his former team, the Atlanta Hawks, declined his $24.3 million option for the 2026-27 season. Kuminga was selected seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors and remained with the "Dubs" until February 2026, when he was traded to Atlanta.
