KSS Nurtures Its Gems: Alimpijević Calls Up Six 'Eaglets' Who Dazzled the World to Senior Squad

This summer, Serbia's youth basketball categories proved that the future is bright. The cadets secured a silver medal at the World Championship, and the junior team achieved the same success at the European Championship. It's only natural that these young talents are rewarded and get a taste of the senior team experience, with some set to get their chance in the upcoming World Cup qualifying window.

However, that's not all. Sportal has learned that several other promising talents will also be included in Dušan Alimpijević's extended roster for the upcoming qualifying window in August. From the cadet national team, Nikola Kusturica, a player with immense potential who recently signed a lucrative NIL deal with UCLA, will join Lukić.

From the junior squad, Andrej Lučić, a key leader for Nemanja Jovanović's team and instrumental in their silver medal win, will be on the list. He will be joined by Savo Drezgić, who spent the previous season with Mega. Nikola Džepina, who had an outstanding performance at the recent tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team, is also included. The list will be rounded out by Aleksa Stanojević, an FMP player who also had a stellar tournament and season with the Panthers.

As for Lukić, whom we've previously covered, he made his senior team debut for Zaragoza at just 16 years old last season, successfully representing them in both senior and U22 competitions.

These two teams have the potential to become golden generations for Serbian basketball, and the Serbian Basketball Federation (KSS) and coach Dušan Alimpijević have shown their trust by including them in the senior team's roster. The Federation is closely nurturing these talents, recognizing and rewarding their hard work. Serbia is set to play Iceland and Italy in August, with Lithuania also being a rival in the newly formed group.
