The team led by head coach Mike Brown appeared shaky towards the end of the regular season. Issues were evident, from Karl-Anthony Towns' statement that even after 75 games he didn't fully grasp the new coach's demands, to two losses against Atlanta that put them in a 1-2 series deficit. However, the Knicks showed their mettle, first leveling the series on the road, and now hold two match points to advance to the next round.
On the other hand, Atlanta has already exceeded all expectations. This is a young team that lost its leader, Trae Young, during the season, so significant results weren't anticipated. The mere fact that they managed to "steal" two games from the Knicks is commendable.
While they shouldn't be written off prematurely, as this is the strongest basketball league in the world, New York demonstrated superiority at Madison Square Garden. The game started evenly, but the Knicks' tenacious defense created opportunities for easy transition points, steadily extending their lead. Atlanta simply had no answer and had to accept defeat. When the Knicks play at this level, few teams can stand against them. Their weaknesses are known, but their strengths are currently far more pronounced.
Jalen the Absolute Hero
The undisputed hero of the victory was Jalen Brunson, who delivered a phenomenal performance, scoring an impressive 39 points. He received excellent support from OG Anunoby with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Towns recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. Jose Alvarado also made a significant contribution off the bench with 12 points in as many minutes on the court.
For the defeated Atlanta team, Jalen Johnson was the most efficient with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Dyson Daniels added 17 points, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Onyeka Okongwu each scored 16, while Jonathan Kuminga finished the game with 13 points.
