New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is questionable for Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, ESPN reports.

The 28-year-old American underwent surgery a week ago for a fractured finger on his right hand. This came after the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals, securing a full week of rest before returning to the court for the season's most crucial matchups.

Robinson has already resumed light training with the Knicks, but head coach Mike Brown has yet to confirm his availability for the opening game against the Spurs.

“He trained individually on Monday. I’ll speak with the medical staff to understand what he’ll be able to do,” Brown stated.

In December, Mitchell Robinson played a pivotal role in New York's triumph over the same opponent in the NBA Cup, recording 4 points, 15 rebounds, and 2 blocks in just 18 minutes. The center's presence will be crucial for a repeat success against the Spurs, as he is uniquely positioned to challenge the Texans' star, Victor Wembanyama.

The Knicks began the playoffs with one win and two losses in their series against the Atlanta Hawks, before securing three consecutive victories to close it out. Since then, they haven't lost any of their eight games against Cleveland and the Philadelphia 76ers, sweeping both series 4-0.
