The German tactician, widely tipped to take over the German national team soon, recounted how a Reds delegation flew by private jet to Nice to meet with Mbappé and his family, hoping to persuade him to join the Premier League side.

“We flew from Blackpool to Nice. There, the entire Mbappé family boarded a private jet with five rooms or something similar,” Klopp told Magenta TV ahead of the World Cup quarter-final match between France and Morocco.

“We truly pulled out all the stops. We made sure not to be seen. We circled in the air, spoke with the family, and enjoyed a delicious meal. It was a fantastic experience. And after all that, he chose to go to Paris!” Klopp added with a smile.

Ultimately, Mbappé did move to Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee of €180 million, making him one of the most expensive footballers in history.

Klopp also revealed his desire to sign another French talent, Ousmane Dembélé. However, in 2016, Dembélé opted to leave Rennes and join Klopp's former club, Borussia Dortmund.
