Jürgen Klopp, increasingly rumored to be the next Germany national team coach, has officially confirmed for the first time that he is in talks with the local football federation to take over the DFB-Team. The former Liverpool manager spoke to Magenta TV, where he serves as an analyst for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

As is widely known, former national team coach Julian Nagelsmann resigned following Germany's disappointing World Cup campaign, which saw them exit in the Round of 16 after a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay.

In this regard, Klopp stated: “Things developed quite quickly. Julian resigned. The German Football Association (DFB) is looking for his successor, and they are in discussions with me. Intensive talks are ahead because the problems we are currently facing are, of course, not solely due to Julian Nagelsmann. Julian is an exceptional coach and will prove that many more times in his career.”

“That’s why we just have to wait and see how these conversations unfold. I also need to have discussions with my employer, Oliver Mintzlaff (editor's note – the managing director of the Red Bull group). I know that German football is very dear to him, and therefore he is very open to such conversations.”

“German football is at a crossroads. We now need to make fundamental changes. Whether it ends up being me or someone else, that doesn't change the fact that these changes are necessary. I am more than energized right now, so I am ready. This is a very, very attractive task, a very important task. I can't deny that I am genuinely interested,” Klopp added.
