Klay Thompson: It's an Honor to be with the Miami Heat, I Want to Show I Can Still Win
Four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson has expressed his comfort and excitement with his new team, the Miami Heat. The 36-year-old veteran, who ranks fourth all-time in three-pointers made, joined the Heat from the Dallas Mavericks after two seasons with the Texas franchise. Prior to that, he secured four NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.
"I know the atmosphere here is demanding. That's what drew me in. I've tasted victory before, and nothing comes close to it. The opportunity to win again at the highest level was incredibly appealing to me... This is a season where I want to prove myself again and show that I can still win. I can't wait to get to work. It's incredible to be here – it's such an honor," Klay Thompson stated during his introductory press conference as a Heat player.
The American guard is a five-time All-Star and holds the record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 14. Thompson is just 74 successful long-range shots away from surpassing legendary Ray Allen and moving into third place on the all-time list in that category.
"There will be a lot of eyes on our team this season. That's what we wanted. We're looking forward to it. We've always respected him greatly. He's a tremendous champion. He knows how to win and how to help others. He has a great basketball IQ and contributes significantly on defense," said Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra.
The Heat also bolstered their roster earlier this summer with Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, signaling a clear intent to contend for more than they achieved in the previous three campaigns, which saw them fail to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs.
