Rodrigo Mora's transfer from FC Porto to AS Roma is all but finalized. Only the signing of documents and contract drafts remain to officially seal a deal that will bring €50 million into FC Porto SAD's coffers, a price point set by André Villas-Boas from the outset. The midfielder awaits the green light to head to Italy.

The agreement between the two clubs, while not yet fully closed, is largely ironed out and involves a complex financial structure. This isn't new for FC Porto, who have utilized similar models in various past deals since AVB became president. Initially, Roma will pay €25 million for half of the player's economic rights. Subsequently, the deal includes a purchase option for the Italians on the remaining 50% for another €25 million, with FC Porto holding a reciprocal sell option for the same amount.

This arrangement, which effectively functions as a mandatory buy-and-sell agreement, allows Roma to comply with UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations while still pursuing other targets, such as Lyon's Malik Fofana. Simultaneously, it guarantees FC Porto the full €50 million, a figure the Dragons never wavered on for their promising young talent.

This business model mirrors the deals that brought Nehuén Pérez to the Estádio do Dragão from Udinese, and Kiwior to Arsenal, albeit with different valuations. Fran Navarro's move to SC Braga also featured this dual-clause structure.
